They don’t make knives like this today. This family heirloom was an honor to work on.
We had a customer send this knife to us and ask if we could do anything with it. When it arrived it had chips and deep notches all down the blade. They had taken it to a local blacksmith in their home town who wouldn’t touch it when he heard the sentimental value it held. This knife means a lot to the family. It would mean even more if they could use it.
What makes this knife so special?
The young man that now owns this knife has been kind enough to let us share this story with all of you! See, this knife belonged to his Grandfather who made this knife by hand many decades ago. He used this knife to clean deer and work around his property. He even carried this very knife overseas while he served our Great Country in the Vietnam War.
The young man wanted nothing more than to be able to dress a deer with the same knife his Grandfather had used. After inspecting the knife and finding no irreversible damage, we set to work restoring the blade. The family asked that we leave as much character as we could. They asked that we merely put a functional edge on the blade. So that is exactly what we did.
This knife is a piece of art no doubt. Honestly, we don’t know that we’ve ever held one so balanced as this one. Though we will never know for certain, we are quite sure that his Grandfather, coming from such a hard-working background, would be thrilled that his Grandson chose to restore the knife and use it instead of merely keeping it for memory’s sake. We are honored to have taken a part in keeping this family heirloom alive for another generation!
